The blond bombshell tried to celebrate her 27th birthday today at the Silver Spoon Beach House event space in Malibu, but the paparazzi apparently scared her away.

Here's what went down:

Simpson and five pals arrived this morning for a day at the beach. Lunch and a barbecue dinner were planned, sources tell me.

But about two hours into it, as lunch was being served, more than a dozen paparazzi descended on the house. I'm told Simpson decided to cut it short.

"She couldn't deal with it," one source said. "She kept saying she didn't want her friends to go through that. So, they stayed inside and then just left."

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Simpson will be returning to the beach anytime soon. She's apparently leaving for New Orleans tomorrow to start shooting her next flick, Major Movie Star.

Jessica Simpson's latest movie is reportedly so bad her manager father has delayed its release date.

'Blonde Ambition' - based on hit 80s film 'Working Girl' and co-starring Luke Wilson - has had its release date changed several times amid fears it will be a huge flop.

A source told the New York Daily News newspaper: "The release date, which was set for August 3, has now been delayed until the last week of August. Jessica's father Joe then intervened and said he wasn't comfortable with the level of competition from other films that month."

Another source adds: "Jessica was not very focused on set and flubbed her lines often. She always had her dog around, was on the phone with her then-boyfriend John Mayer or was sitting in a warmed-up SUV."

The film is still said to be incomplete and does not yet have a firm release date.

Had it been released in August as intended, 'Blonde Ambition' would have gone up against 'The Bourne Ultimatum' and 'Rush Hour 3' at the box office.

Meanwhile, Jessica is reportedly set to go on a date with Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal, with rumours rife the pair have a crush on each other.

Breakups can be tough, but since her split with singer John Mayer, Jessica Simpson has channeled all her energy into working out — and she looks great!

A combination of 45-minute workouts with personal trainer Harley Pasternak five days a week, plus a new diet of five small meals a day, have helped the 26-year-old singer lose an estimated 15 pounds already. “She wants to tone and tighten but not lose her femininity,” Pasternak tells In Touch. “She doesn’t want to get skinny and be a twig.”

The couple, who are said to have parted ways several times in recent months, allegedly ended their relationship for good on Sunday (03.06.07).

A source told People magazine: "It has been rocky and it had been rocky, and it reached the end of the road. It is definitely over - the relationship has ended.

"They broke up Sunday night, but who knows what the future will hold. This is the twelfth time they've broken up. Their relationship is volatile. Last week, they felt better than ever. This week, things are rocky. Who knows what the future will bring."

Jessica Simpson, 26, and JohnMayer, 29, who have been dating for the past year, recently spent time in New York and Mexican resort Cabo San Lucas in a desperate effort to save their relationship.

The source added: "They tried to make it work. They dated for a year. They spent time together in an attempt to talk things over. But it's over.

"Every relationship has its differences, but with Jessica and John those differences were starting to become more and more apparent."

A source close to Jessica said: "She loves John but she has to be true to herself."

Pop star Jessica Simpson has fallen for the charms of British heart-throb Jude Law.

It was lust at first sight for the singer - who is smitten with the smooth-talking actor's English twang after a recent introduction.

She says, "Jude's lovely - it was the first time I'd met him and he was very charming."

"I love the way he talks. His British accent and the way it makes him move his mouth are such a turn-on."

Jessica Simpson was reportedly furious after being mistaken for little sister Ashlee by lover John Mayer.

The 'Dukes of Hazzard' star - who recently went from a blonde to brunette - was with her new musician boyfriend when he allegedly pointed to a picture of Ashlee on a magazine cover and asked "How old is this picture of you?"

Jessica is said to have lost her temper with John and insisted she and Ashlee look completely different.

A witness told America's Star magazine: "Jessica read John the riot act. He definitely touched a nerve."

Though Jessica, 26, was once close to her 22-year-old sister, they have reportedly started to grow apart since Ashlee lost weight and dyed her hair blonde.
