Marga to the rescue of Renée

The recent rumour of an affair between Renée Gunning (the daughter of Michiel, Marga Scheide's partner since 2006) and Jeroen Rietbergen (Linda de Mol's boyfriend) caused a sensation in the Dutch tabloid press. The scandal started earlier this week when an article published in Weekend magazine revealed this secret relationship and included quotes of Renée telling that "something happened" when she was 18. The young woman (who appeared on RTL 5's reality show "Echte Gooische Meisjes" in 2010) immediately replied to the publication of the article and denied the story. Marga also reacted to this "media circus" and told De Telegraaf that she believed in Renée's innocence.

Unique video: Marga's tribute to the Supremes (1983)

Marga's "Love Symphony" on VARA's "Vijf tegen vijf" (1983)

A very rare video of Marga Scheide has recently been uploaded to YouTubeIt shows the former Luv' lady singing a Supremes medley (entitled "Love Symphony") on VARA's program "Vijf tegen Vijf" on December 2nd 1983. This potpourri was produced by Jacques Zwart (who later became Marga's partner and died suddenly of a heart attack ten years ago). It was released by Carrere Records in the Netherlands and was licensed to Starborn Records in the USA in 1984. "Love Symphony" appeared on Luv's double CD "25 Jaar Na Waldolala" as a bonus track in 2003. The medley flopped but was broadcast on Black American radio stations. It was indeed marketed as a R&B single in Uncle Sam's country.

A few months before its release, a TV special "Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever" was broadcast on NBC to commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Motown Records (home to successful artists in the 1960s and 1970s: The Supremes, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Jackson 5...). The impact of this TV show was huge: everybody remembers Michael Jackson performing the "Moonwalk" for the first time and the Soul classics sung by the most significant acts of the legendary label. It caused a revival of interest in Motown's music in the whole world. A string of popular singers (Phil Collins, David Bowie & Mick JaggerKim Wilde...) covered early Motown hits in the 1980s. Marga wanted to do the same and paid tribute to America's most succesful girl group "The Supremes" fronted by Diana Ross

Luv's 1980-1981 lineup (briefly) reunited

Ria, Marga & José receiving Luv's DVD from Peter Boonstra

Yesterday's fan club meeting in Eindhoven saw the reunion of Luv's 1980-1981 lineup. José Hoebee, Marga Scheide and Ria Thielsch devoted time to their fans for pictures and autographs. They also received a copy of the double DVD conceived by Peter Boonstra. The "Dutch Show Company" sang tracks of Luv' and José. The ladies even gave an impromptu performance of "Megamix '93". Such an event was unexpected, especially nine months after the so-called "definitive" break-up of the original formation.

This party was unique. Even if I wasn't there, I would like to thank the ladies, Peter Boonstra (for the DVD and his input), Anton & the Dutch Show Company and the fans (Jos, Martin, Arnold, Jennifer, Nancy, Lia, Kenny and all the others that I haven't mentioned).

Bart van de Laar's case reopened?

Posted by abohan Selasa, 02 April 2013 0 komentar
Bart Van de Laar was a successful record executive in the late 1970's and early 1980's. This openly gay man had a flamboyant lifestyle. He was involved in Carrere/CNR records. In October 1979, Luv' signed a 750.000 Dutch guilder deal with him after the group left Philips/Phonogram. The business man paid the ladies Concorde and private jet flights, Champagne bottles and prestigious parties. Under his guidance, the trio scored two big hits: the single "Ooh, Yes I Do" (#2 in Denmark, #5 in Holland, #7 in Belgium, #27 in Germany, #44 in France, #10 on the Europarade, certified gold in Mexico) and the album "True Luv" (which sold 50.000 copies in Holland alone and thus wend gold).

The "showbiz transfer of 1979": Luv' left Philips/Phonogram to sign a lucrative contract with CNR/Carrere.

José and her Luv' colleagues earned a gold record for their CNR/Carrere album "True Luv" in 1980

In association with WEA Netherlands, Van de Laar later runned the short-lived TTR label with his partners Ruud Wijnands and German entrepreneur Rolf Baierle. In addition to Luv', his artist roster included Francis Goya, Corry Konings, Babe, Benny Neyman and Lenny Kuhr. On November 10th, 1981 he was shot dead in Hilversum. Gay prostitute Martien Hunnik was condemned for his murder and was released from prison in the early 1990's. Van de Laar's death remained a mystery. In April 2009, Marga Scheide and José Hoebee appeared on RTL 4's paranormal show "Het Zesde Zintuig" (the Sixth Sense) to tell their memories of the record producer. This TV program featured mediums who analysed the crime scene and felt that his assassination might be linked to his activities. Van de Laar had indeed made many enemies in the showbiz. A cold case team set up by the newspaper "De Telegraaf" investigated the homicide in 2010 and revealed contradictions. Recently,  Geert-Jan Knoops, Hunnik's lawyer and the Dutch Public Prosecution Service (Openbaar Ministerie) asked for the reopening of the case because of a possible miscarriage of justice. The Supreme Court of the Netherlands has to make a decision. On March 21st, RTL Boulevard covered the news and therefore interviewed Marga. The former Luv' singer described the late producer as a man "full of energy, always laughing and one of a kind".
