Flashback: "Hans van Hemert : What will be trendy in 1981?"

Recently Luv's creator/producer/songwriter Hans van Hemert uploaded a nice video to YouTube. On December 10th 1980, the maestro appeared on a TV program called "Veronica Vandaag" to tell his impressions of the music industry and the trends of 1981. Other famous protagonists of the business discussed several subjects: the future of the music, the promotion of new talents and the importance of videos... Among these professionnals were Bryan Ferry (frontman of Roxy Music), record producer Pim Koopman (who produced José's I Will Follow Him), Sting & The Police and Dutch singer Rob de Nijs. This TV program was taped after the release of "My Number One" by Luv' and a few months before the group's first break-up. It was aired less than one year before the launch of MTV. The amazing popularity of the channel changed the history of music. From then on an artist who wanted to enter the mainstream market had to star in a video. Van Hemert sensed that the visual aspect of artists mattered. Indeed Luv's attractive look was the key to success in addition to their catchy songs.

Ria Thielsch with Mister & Mississippi

Yesterday Ria Thielsch (a member of Luv' in 1980 and 1981) attended the concert of Mister & Mississippi (a pop-folk band featuring her niece Maxime Barlag as the lead singer) at the Vondelpark in Amsterdam. Ria posted a couple of pictures on Facebook. Mister & Mississippi have had a wonderful year (see news posted on March 11th 2013). They released their debut album which peaked at #6 in Holland and spent 20 weeks on the charts. They won the "best newcomer 3FM award" (see news posted on April 21st 2013). They have toured extensively the Netherlands. The group's record will even come out on September 13th in Germany, Austria and Switzerland where they will do gigs.

Luv' at the Beau Monde Awards (2006)

One year ago, Luv' disbanded after their final show at the Dutch Valley Festival (see news posted on August 2012). What has happened to the ladies since then?

Luv' at the Dutch Valley Festival (August 11. 2012)

Patty Brard's participation in the celebrity diving competition "Sterren Springen" (aka "Celebrity Splash") on SBS 6 caused a sensation in Holland. The TV program was high in the ratings. The famous video of Patty's failed dive was even used as a publicity stunt to sell the format worldwide. As a result, "Splash" relaunched Miss Brard's career on television. The diva had a very hectic TV season and took part in a string of programs (Wie is de Reisleider?, Vliegende Hollanders, Echte Meisjes op de Prairie, Shownieuws, Koffietijd, Lust Liefde of Laten Lopen and Ranking the Stars).

José Hoebee was depressive after her husband's death. It took her a while to adapt herself to her new situation. She left her appartment in Lommel, Belgium and moved twice (Muiderberg and Hilversum). She was helped by her friends (in particular Viola Holt and Harry van Hoof). She found a job as a volunteer at the Wisseloord Studios. In December 2012 she was cast on the SBS 6 figure skating show "Sterren Dansen Op Het Ijs". She was rapidly eliminated from the competition in early January. In June, talent agencies announced that Bonnie St. Claire and José re-formed their duo and thus could be booked for live performances. Recently, Miss Hoebee attended Amsterdam Gay Pride and on August 8th she did her first gig since Luv's farewell concert at the "Simone FM on Tour" party.

Marga Scheide, as usual, has been very discreet. She gave a few interviews to magazines. She retired from show business and started to develop an art project in Ibiza. The blonde lady appeared on May 25th at Luv's meet'n greet afternoon with José and Ria Thielsch (Patty's replacement). The reunion of the 1980 line-up was a big surprise when it was announced.

José's performance @ "Simone FM on Tour" Party

José Hoebee performed yesterday at the "Simone FM on Tour" party during the "Week der Besten" Festival in Vlagtwedde, NL. It was her first gig since Luv's farewell show last year. One of her biggest fan Ada Zwakenberg posted a review of the performance on the singer's forum. At first, the songstress was a bit nervous but little by little she became confident. Her setlist consisted of "Casanova", "U.O.Me", "I Will Follow Him", "Trojan Horse", "Be My Baby", "You're the Greatest Lover" and "Zoals Vrienden Doen". José also told the audience that Luv's very first live show took place in Vlagtwedde.
