Without any doubts, the old Miley Cyrus is long gone! But looks stunning in the video!

Patty @ Dordrecht Pride

Patty Brard will be performing at the Dordrecht Pride. The diva's show will take place at Café-restaurant "Merz" in Dordrecht, NL on June 8th at 8.00 pm. Other artists (including Vengaboys and former "Babe" singer Marga Bult) will be singing at this gay festival which consists of culture, theater, market, music, parties, movies and more.

Geekly Chic: Celebrity News: Candice Accola Is Engaged To 'The Frays' Joe King!

Amazing news, fang fans: Candice Accola is officially an engaged woman. She said “YES!” when her long term musician boyfriend Joseph Aaron King (aka Joe King, who’s a guitarist for the band The Fray) popped the question during on a romantic getaway to Florence, Italy. And while some Klaroline supporters might be slightly saddened by the fact that he isn’t the “Joseph” they had in mind, we’re beyond joyous for Candy Cola and her handsome fiance!

The Vampire Diaries actress, who recently replaced Kim Kardashian as Midori’s spokesmodel, wasn’t timid about sharing the wonderful news either with her family and fans. She immediately posted two heartwarming photo of her and Joe looking blissful and content while wrapped up in each other’s arms during a sunny afternoon excursion. Additionally, she commented, “Cheers from the future Mr.&Mrs. Joseph Aaron King” and then posted a one word reaction: “Happy….”Aww!
Oh, and because we love a bit of sparkle, we couldn’t help but notice the gorgeous diamond ring on her finger. (Well done, Joe!) Anyway, congratulations to Candice and Joseph. We wish them both all the happiness in the world as they embark on their exciting new chapter as a couple!

Patty's column about Ibiza

Patty Brard's latest column in Weekend magazine is about Ibiza where the diva often spends her holidays. She has a kind of "love-hate" relationship with the party island. On the one hand, she hates the overcrowded beaches in the summer with hysterical party goers and a bad service which is too expensive as well as the local population which tries to take advantage of the foreigners' money in the winter. On the other hand, Patty is in love with Ibiza. Why?  1.The sun is always shining 2. She stays at her friends' place and is happy there. 3. The high season has not really started yet. 4. She is currently testing with her friend the iPurify program (an organic and locally grown juice cleanse to purify the body). She combines it with massages, a vitamin cure and bikram yoga.

The youth of José

Weekend magazine publishes a weekly column entitled "De jeugd van..." (the youth of...)" which deals with the early years of Dutch celebrities. The latest column is about José Hoebee. The ex-Luv' singer told that she had a nice time as a youngster. She played a lot outside with her friends. However she had some trouble with her nanny.
"After the birth of my younger sister, a nanny sometimes helped my mother," José said. "This woman often spanked me. Or I was locked in a small room where a drying rack stood in front of a stove. As I was playing I hit it by accident and an underwear was burning. That's why she gave me a slap but this time my mother heard it and found out what happened. She jumped out of bed and immediately threw her out. She was devilish."

SBS and RTL want Patty!!!

Today's edition of Privé-De Telegraaf features an article on Patty Brard. The diva rejoices in her good fortune. SBS 6, RTL 4 and RTL 5 want to work with the TV personality on a regular basis. Patty is indeed in a position of strength. Two years ago, she was in trouble when SBS got rid of her. "After SBS fired me, I did many things. I released a party album with Emile Hartkamp. I gave live performances. I had no time to sleep. I had to pay off the mortgage on my house. I didn't want to be bankrupt twice," she said. Her famous dive on "Sterren Springen" relaunched her career. "I work for everybody. But now at my age I want to belong to one club. If I'm asked, I want to collaborate with one network," she added. And it could be SBS 6 as the channel has plans with Patty for a prime access show. 
"I'm everywhere. I think that what I do with RTL 5 (the "make-under show") is a fantastic format. And I had fun with Loretta on "Koffietijd" on RTL 4. The viewing figures were better when I hosted the program (+100.000 viewers). Apart from that I appear once a week on SBS Shownieuws. It feels like home. The show attracted more than 700.000 viewers," she explained. Miss Brard is positive about her future: "The TV season is almost over. There will be many people whose deals won't be extended. As for me, I've been approached. It's a comfortable situation."

Luv's 1980-1981 lineup (briefly) reunited

Yesterday's fan club meeting in Eindhoven saw the reunion of Luv's 1980-1981 lineup. José Hoebee, Marga Scheide and Ria Thielsch devoted time to their fans for pictures and autographs. They also received a copy of the double DVD conceived by Peter Boonstra. The "Dutch Show Company" sang tracks of Luv' and José. The ladies even gave an impromptu performance of "Megamix '93". Such an event was unexpected, especially nine months after the so-called "definitive" break-up of the original formation. 

This party was unique. Even if I wasn't there, I would like to thank the ladies, Peter Boonstra (for the DVD and his input), Anton & the Dutch Show Company and the fans (Jos, Martin, Arnold, Jennifer, Nancy, Lia, Kenny and all the others that I haven't mentioned).

Reminder: Luv's fan club meeting tomorrow!!!

Luv's original line-up: Patty, José & Marga (1979)

Tomorrow will be a great day for all the LUVers. A fan club meeting will be held at Musis Sacrem in Eindhoven, NL on May 25th 2013 between 1.00 and 5.00 pm. José Hoebee,  Marga Scheide and Ria Thielsch (Patty's replacement in 1980) will be there. The party band "Dutch Show Company" will perform Luv' classic hits and solo tracks of José and Marga. A double DVD with videos of the ladies' legendary TV performances (including Musikladen, TopPop, specials...) compiled by Peter Boonstra (who runs the group's fan club) will be presented. Some videos are taken from the original master tapes.

Patty to take part in "Ranking The Stars"

Patty Brard will participate in the jubilee edition of BNN panel game show "Ranking The Stars" (hosted by Paul de Leeuw). Filming will start next month. Other Dutch celebrities will be present: Isa Hoes, Halina Reijn, Ferry Doedens, Heleen van Royen, Kees Tol, Xander de Buisonjé, Richard Groenendijk, Viola Holt, Catherine Keyl and Daniël de Ridder. In 2008, Patty had already taken part in the program.

Geekly Chic: Celebrity News: Kim Kardashian Takes Baby On Tour With Kanye West!

There will be no lazy days at home for Kim Kardashian, Kanye West and their newborn baby, because Kim is planning to take the baby along with her on tour with Kanye.

Kim will give birth in July and in October they will join daddy Kanye on tour. Kanye's crew has been notified to have cribs and soundproof hotel rooms at every stop, TMZ confirms.

* The third episode of RTL 5's make-under show "Lust, Liefde Of Laten Lopen" (hosted by Patty Brard) attracted 363.000 viewers (overall market share: 4.7%) on May 20th.

* The late edition of "Shownieuws" (SBS 6 entertainment news program) featured La Brard as a showbiz expert on May 17th and drew 781.000 viewers (overall market share: 17.1%). The next day, the former Luv' singer expressed satisfaction by posting this tweet in Dutch: "And then we had yesterday evening almost 800.000 viewers with #Shownieuws Late...step by step by step!"

* Patty's column published in Weekend magazine on May 15th dealt with TV host and stand-up comedian Jandino Asporaat. The diva admires the young entertainer who has recently recorded a track ("Mijn Liefde") with Gerard Joling. This duet is currently #8 on the Dutch Single Top 100. 

Today's column in Weekend is about Peter Jan Rens (who is in trouble because of lies about a villa in Belgium). Patty calls him a "pathological liar" and compares him with her ex-boyfriend Eric Peute who caused her bankruptcy twenty years ago.

* A few weeks ago, Patty was disappointed in Reinout Oerlemans (CEO of Eyeworks) (see news posted on May 4th 2013). But the situation has changed and the two TV personalities are on good terms again. Miss Brard told Shownieuws: "We've worked it out. He's taking care of me".

* As a fan of the Eurovision Song Contest, the diva made comments on Twitter and Facebook about the candidates of the European music competition. Emmelie de Forest, who represented Denmark, won the contest with her song "Only Teardrops". As for Anouk, she reached the 9th position with her track "Birds" (the best result for the Netherlands since 1999). Patty was enthusiastic on FB: "Well done girl! You put Holland back on the credible list and put yourself on the international market! #winwinsituationproudofyou"

* Yesterday, Patty attended the launch party of Yolanthe Sneijder-Cabau's jewellery line "YC Jewels" at Club Lounge Reina Restaurant in Istanbul, Turkey. Geekly Chic: Music: One Direction Confirms New World Tour Next Year!

British Boy band, One Direction, have been out on tour for long now, and now, ContactMusic confirms they're already getting ready to hit the road again.

"Where We Are" is the name or their new tour that was presented yesterday (May 16, 2013).

The tour will start in Bogota, Colombia, on April 25, next year. 

Their new album is expected to be released around Christmas this year.

"Luv' Gold" and "Megamix '93": 20th Anniversary

Recently, I posted the eighth chapter of Luv's biography which dealt with the reunion in the 1990s (click here to read it). One of the most important event of this era was the release of the "Luv' Gold" compilation. Thanks to its presence on the charts, Luv's revival was a fact. 20 years ago, on May 15th 1993, the anthology entered the charts as well as a track taken from it: "Megamix '93". Let's remember and celebrate these wonderful records.

History

Before Luv' Gold, a few compilations came out. The most significant were "Greatest Hits" (by Philips/Phonogram in 1979), "Goodbye Luv'" (by CNR/Carrere in 1981) and another "Greatest Hits" (by Mercury/Phonogram in 1989). But they were rush-released and the ladies were not involved in their conception. As a result, they were not really hits and it was too early for a resurgence of interest in Luv's music. Only the 1979's Greatest Hits spent nine weeks on the Nationale Hitparade LP Top 50 in Holland and peaked at #21. This performance is weak in comparison with Luv's triumph on the single charts. In the late 1970s, the majority of the group's fans were youngsters and they bought more 7-inch singles than LPs.

But in early 1993, things were different. ABBA's and Boney M's "Gold" compilations were successful worldwide. It was the perfect timing for Luv' (as a super pop act from the 1970s) to release their own "Gold" CD.




Will Hoebee (José's husband) was mesmerized by the impact of the above-mentioned albums and had the idea to put out a singles collection. The fans were waiting impatiently for this miracle to happen and a new generation was ready to enjoy the music their parents or big sisters and brothers listened to when they were younger. Arcade Records was interested in this project and in March 1993, Luv' signed a deal with the label. 

The CD's booklet featured a short bio of Luv's impressive career and beautiful photos.

The release party of "Luv' Gold" took place in late April at the iconic "iT" club in Amsterdam.

"Gold" was the first exhaustive compilation of the trio as it included songs from their Philips/Phonogram years (1977-1979) and their CNR/Carrere era (1979-1981). Hits like "Ooh, Yes I Do", "Ann-Maria" or "My Number One" were compiled on CD for the first time. A bonus song was added to the track listing and released as a single: "Megamix '93", a non-stop house mix of Luv's classics produced by Dancability (featuring Martin Boer of 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor). It was common practice for Disco and Dance acts to conceive a Megamix. It was also an easy way to turn old into new and to conquer the hit parades again:

The essential ingredients for success were there: the 1970s nostalgia, the reunion of the original Luv' singers, a good promotion campaign (De iT, TV shows, radio interviews, photo shoots for the press....). On May 15th, both Luv' Gold and Megamix '93 entered the Dutch charts. Gold later peaked at #14 on the LP Top 50 and #9 on the Mega Album Top 100. It stayed 18 weeks on the charts and eventually sold 40.000 copies in the Netherlands. These are respectable sales for the original line-up who had not been active for 13 years. Nowadays the CD would reach the gold status according to the current certification criteria. 



The Megamix spent 5 weeks on the charts and reached Nr. 17 on the Single Top 100 and the 23rd position on the Dutch Top 40.

From a commercial perspective, 1993 can be considered as the last year of Luv's impact on Holland's mainstream music market. Back in the day, the music industry was making profits and was not suffering crisis. Other "Best Of" albums or ambitions projects (like the "25 Jaar Na Waldolala" double CD and the "Completely In Luv" box set) were planned later but did not reach the level of popularity of "Gold".
